Ncode Technology
Ncode, the original technology that applies dot- and line-based patterns to various surfaces, together with the world’s highest-performing optical pen capable of recognizing and processing these codes, are the core technologies of NeoLAB Convergence.
What is Ncode?
Ncode can contain a large amount of information within a small area of 2mm x 2mm, and it can generate codes that can be printed on more than 377.9 billion sheets of paper (based on A4 size). This means that virtually every sheet of paper and book on Earth can be assigned a unique code. With micro-patterns that are almost invisible to the naked eye and a pattern formation technology that prevents moiré effects, Ncode has little to no impact on printed text or images.
Precise Position on a Plane
Ncode can express accurate and precise positional information on paper where it is printed.
Page Differentiation
In addition to positional information, Ncode also carries data about the printed paper itself, such as page number or type of book.
Convenience of Printing
Ncode does not require any special printing technology. It supports offset printing, which is commonly used in mass production at print shops, and adds only one extra spot-color film in the CMYK printing process, resulting in almost no additional cost. Beyond paper, Ncode can also be printed on transparent film or even LCD screens, offering a wide range of applications.
Ncode Printable at Home
Ncode can also be printed using a PostScript-supported laser printer (600 DPI or higher), making it easy to print at home or in the office.
Hardware Technology Behind the World’s Thinnest and Most Powerful Smartpen
With a thickness of about 10mm, similar to that of a regular ballpoint pen, it houses components and sensors comparable to those found in a smartphone.
Smartpen-Dedicated Processor
Through its own technological expertise, NeoLAB Convergence has developed and applied a processor optimized specifically for smartpens.
Ncode Sensor
A self-developed sensor capable of reading Ncode ensures stable recognition performance under any lighting conditions.
High-Quality Hardware
It is not just about making a slim pen — the hardware is slim, durable, and stable, capable of accurately reproducing handwriting even with variations in angle or distortion caused by individual writing habits.
Patent-Powered Technology
From fundamental technologies such as Ncode, dot codes, and digital pens, to core and applied technologies, NeoLAB Convergence has independently developed its innovations and holds over 100 patents worldwide.
Main Application Areas of Ncode Technology
The applications of Ncode technology can be divided into two main fields: sound pens, which recognize positional information on a plane to play linked multimedia, and smartpens, which track positional trajectories on a plane to digitize handwriting along with meta information.
Neo Smartpen
When writing on paper, Neo Smartpen instantly digitizes everything — from simple doodles and formulas to diagrams, drawings, and ideas.
Poppen
Poppen is a sound pen that reads books aloud. By simply tapping the book, children can immediately hear narration, enjoy various sounds, or watch video content, making reading more fun and engaging.
Designed for Developers
Anyone can develop applications for Neo Smartpen. SDK source code and sample code are available for download via GitHub, and a wide range of development environments are supported. Start building Neo Smartpen services with endless possibilities today.
